 Aura is Vis Energy that is released by a mob when they are killed. This energy stays dormant until absorbed by another creature or object. Aura can be measured with a thaumometer.

Use[]

Aura can be absorbed by particular magical creations and be turned into usable Vis. However, there is a limited amount of vis in an area and using too much of it can have consequences. The amount of living things in an area depends on the amount of aura.

To suck taint out of an area, use a condenser with the researched upgrade Concentrated Evil. To increase the aura, throw concentrated Vis potions and/or place Totems of Dawn. These will not only raise the levels of aura, but also prevent the growth and spread of Taint in that chunk.

Desirable levels of Aura[]

High amounts of vis in an area can increase the spawn rate of animals and even replenish vegetation such as grass, saplings, shimmerleafs and cinderpearl flowers.

Low levels of Aura[]

When the amount of vis and taint in an area are dangerously low, the chunk begins the process of desertification. First no animals will spawn, then the ground will slowly turn to sand and trees/logs turning into petrified logs. This can easily overrun a place if not looked after. This spread can even happen when the chunks are not directly loaded.

You will need an absurd amount of potions of concentrated vis to reverse this process which will demand a lot of resources. Your best option is to protect areas you want to keep pristine. This involves potions of concentrated vis and totems of dawn.
